GENISIS: THE PNEUDRIVE CHALLENGE

Launched in 2008, the PneuDrive Challenge aims to uplift the South African engineering industry and to enhance the standard of graduate engineers. The competition is proudly sponsored by SEW-Eurodrive of Germany and Pneumax of Italy. The competition is facilitated by Andrew Rose of The Write Squad, specialists in marketing and media design. (www.thewritesquad.co.za)

TetraStack™ was conceived and developed by students at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in response to the Green Warehouse Logistics Challenge set forth by the annual PneuDrive Mechatronics Competition. (www.pneudrive.co.za) The competition inspired the team to create a new warehouse system from the ground up rather than by an incremental evolutionary process. The system is focused on improving the efficiency and performance of such facilities by means of concurrent warehouse placement, retrieval, sorting and defragmentation.

Links to two articles about the competition and how it is trying to bridge the gap between university and business were published in Vector and Motion Control. Links: <Vector Article> < Motion Control Article>
